International Women’s Day 2023

On the 8th of March, Visuable is celebrating achievements, raising awareness about gender inequalities, and highlighting the importance of #IWD

While moving towards gender equality is a daily matter, International Women's Day is an essential day to celebrate women loudly. It recognises the achievements of women in various fields while also emphasising the work that remains to be done to achieve gender equality. As a female-owned and female-led global digital tech company, we are passionate about highlighting the importance of equality and allowing the space for showcasing the change that is yet needed.

DigitALL: Innovation and Technology for Gender Equality

The theme for International Women's Day 2023 is "DigitALL: Innovation and technology for gender equality’’. The tech and digital innovation industry is an important field that has the power to shape our future. However, this industry has a significant gender gap, with women being underrepresented in various roles, such as developers, engineers, and executives. For example, a 2021 report by Girls Who Code shared that only 24% of computer scientists are women, and women hold only 12% of leadership positions in the tech industry.

Besides, there are already concerns about gender inequalities in the emerging Web3 technologies, which include blockchain and cryptocurrency. One major issue is the underrepresentation of women in blockchain and cryptocurrency development. According to a survey conducted by the Chamber of Digital Commerce, only 7% of blockchain developers are indeed women. Also, CoinDesk reported that women in the industry earn on average 35% less than men. This disparity is particularly pronounced in leadership positions, where women hold only 15% of executive positions. This gender imbalance can lead to a lack of diversity and a limited range of perspectives in the development of these technologies. This is why International Women's Day is important.

IWD is a day to honour the accomplishments of brilliant women throughout history while also addressing ongoing gender inequalities. Don’t get us wrong, women have achieved significant progress in a variety of fields, including science and technology, politics, and the arts. But we are not fully there yet.

Women are making significant contributions to society every day but sadly, the work of these amazing women is often overlooked, and they are faced with numerous barriers that limit their progress and success. This is why we want to take the time today to highlight and appreciate amazing women and their work.

Inspiring Messages from Inspiring Leaders and Experts:

Lidia Drzewiecka, The Founder & Creative Director of Visuable

Lidia Drzewiecka

FOUNDER AND CREATIVE DIRECTOR OF VISUABLE

“The digital and tech industries are moving at an incredible speed, and in order to stay relevant, you need to keep up with the trends, continue evolving your product range, and innovating your business model.

Your aim should be to always come up with business ideas that are somewhat different and ahead of what people in your industry are currently doing, so that you reinvent yourself, before everyone else beats you to it.

One way of stumbling upon those ideas is to listen to your customers, and then step into your creativity, to bring to life solutions that solve your customers’ problems in better, faster, or more unexpected ways than those already out there. That’s how to win the market.”

Subramanian

FOUNDER AND CEO OF THE LIMITLESS LEADERS

“To all the incredible women out there: on this Women's Day, let us stand together, united and unstoppable, and celebrate the limitless potential of women everywhere. Let us continue to break through the glass ceiling, shatter stereotypes, and inspire the next generation of women leaders.”

Inka Simola

LEAD DESIGNER AT VISUABLE

‘‘I find one of the most important skills in digital innovation and tech is your curiosity paired with the eagerness to learn and explore unique solutions. Diverse perspectives on digital spaces, tech, and design will be the key to bringing innovation to the field. Therefore, IWD is important to celebrate in order to highlight women and their unique achievements around the world, reminding people of the importance of various perspectives, and celebrating the diversity of womanhood.’’

Toni Hernandez

FOUNDER AND CHIEF CULTURE OFFICER OF MOONSHOT XX

“If you want to succeed as a leader, get really clear on your values and lead with them. One of my core values is integrity. It is one of the most important qualities a leader can possess. And being in integrity is taking care of yourself so you can show up for others. Practicing self-care is integral to success. So, get out and sweat once a day! Hold meetings during a goal or run or take a soul cycle class with a team member. Lead by example.’’

Kimba Cooper-Martin

OWNER OF KIMBA DIGITAL MARKETING

“The most important skills and qualities for succeeding in any industry are tenacity, grit and a willingness to learn from everything and everyone. However, in Tech, I would say the most essential quality is the ability to focus.

Tech moves fast; it’s easy to get distracted by the newest platform or latest trend. If you are taken by every new thing that comes along, you’ll lose focus. In our work with Gamification, there are thousands of innovative apps, tech and ideas floating around. This is where tenacity comes in; you need to hold on tight to your focus and stick with your plan. Try not to get distracted.”

Noemi

EXPERT DESIGNER AT VISUABLE

‘‘I believe it is fundamental to make women’s voices heard on this day. There is so much work to be done in order to achieve equality and a day like this serves the purpose to bring attention to the struggle women, especially marginalised women go through on a daily basis. For me, it is not a celebration but rather a reminder to keep on getting informed, to keep unlearning the patterns of internalised patriarchy and misogyny, to stay sensitive and strong, to hear what other women are experiencing globally, and to support the cause.’’

Melane Mullings

AUTHOR & FOUNDER OF AERE MANAGEMENT CONSULTING

‘‘To be honest, I did not intend to pursue a career as a leader. My main goal really was to make an indelible impact on my industry while addressing a pervasive need in the market; a need that directly influenced one of my most challenging life experiences. Before starting my first business, I found myself gravitating toward researching solutions to address the issue, and leaning into opportunities that placed me in close proximity to the means to make it happen. I ended up launching without any business training, experience, and little capital, but did so with a solid understanding of my purpose, faith in God, and passion to ensure the conditions that led to my enduring my most challenging life experience, would not become the norm for others.

Passion, faith, focus, and a clear understanding of my purpose kept propelling me forward along my first entrepreneurial journey toward success in business, in my award-winning, #1 bestselling business book ‘Lemonade!’, and in my role as a business management consultant.’’

Rin Hamburgh

FOUNDER AND CREATIVE DIRECTOR OF RIN HAMBURGH & CO

‘‘As a creative, I think the best advice I’ve ever been given is “know your numbers’” When I was just getting started, I did a lot by gut instinct and guesswork. Although that can work a lot of the time, it’s far less risky if you combine your instincts with hard facts. If your gut and the numbers don’t align, you need to do a bit more thinking before you act.’’
